NYA LÖVHOLMEN - a citizen proposal

Publication cover

NYA LÖVHOLMEN is a larger art and architecture project researching public space, densification, art and sound in urban areas, with the city part Lövholmen, Stockholm (SE) as a case study. An area that is facing major redevelopment and gentrication.

The project has resulted in both site and context specific work as well as deeper knowledge about process, sound, architecture and city in general.

Manifested through sound recordings, radio broadcast, imaginary soundscapes, self-published magazines, architectural plans, models and more, the team developed Nya Lövholmen, a citizen proposal and multifaceted counter proposal to the plans made public by the landowners and the municipality.

Using the visual language and planning tools of architecture in parallel to a rich web of narrative, we used fiction, humor, pragmatism and the senses to invite the public - bodily - into the architectural plans of Nya Lövholmen.
The counter proposal met its public through a live radio broadcast and a live public listening session at a small park overlooking the urban area in question.

In addition to that we published 4 magazine editions, each with a different theme central to the area and a redevelopment process (human/work-production/home/sound).

The 4th edition of the magazine was a sound magazine and installation at the Of Public Interest (OPI) Lab Storefront space during a public open door session in May 2023 (Gröndal, SE).

Furthermore, a sound archive with field recordings and imaginary soundscapes was initiated.
